Skateboard Size Chart: Find the Right Deck, Wheels and Trucks (2026)
Simple charts for deck width by age, height and shoe size, plus matching truck widths and wheel sizes for how you skate.

Width Is the Key Measurement
When people talk about skateboard size, they usually mean deck width. Width affects how much foot room you have, how easily the board flips and how stable it feels. Length and wheelbase increase with width, so choosing the right width gets you most of the way. Then you match trucks to the deck and pick wheels for where you skate. Use the charts below as a starting point, and adjust for your feet and style.

| 5 and under | Under about 3'5" | About 6.5"–7.0" | Micro |
| 6–8 | About 3'5"–4'4" | About 7.0"–7.5" | Mini |
| 9–12 | About 4'5"–5'2" | About 7.5"–8.0" | Mid |

Truck Size Chart
Truck axle width should be close to your deck width, ideally within about a quarter inch either way. Truck brands use their own size numbers, so check the brand's chart. As an example, Independent's 139 size fits decks around 8.0 to 8.25 inches.
| Deck Width | Approx. Truck Axle Width |

Wheel Size Chart
| Wheel Size | Hardness | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| About 50–53mm | Hard (99A+) | Technical street, flatground |
| About 53–56mm | Hard (97A–101A) | Park, all-round |
| About 56–60mm | Hard (99A+) | Bowls, ramps |
| About 54–60mm | Soft (78A–90A) | Rough streets, cruising |
| About 60mm and up | Soft | Cruisers and longboards |
Big wheels may need risers to avoid wheel bite. See the best skateboard wheels and the wheel size guide.
Deck Length and Wheelbase
Most street decks are about 31 to 32.5 inches long. Wheelbase, the distance between the inner truck holes, typically ranges from about 13.5 to 15 inches. A longer wheelbase feels more stable; a shorter one turns and flips more quickly.
Longboard and Cruiser Sizes
Longboards are measured mainly by length: about 33 to 42 inches for cruising and commuting, and longer for dancing. Cruisers are usually about 27 to 33 inches. See the longboard size guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size skateboard should I get?
Most adults ride decks about 8.0 to 8.5 inches wide. Kids and smaller teens usually ride 7.0 to 8.0 inches. Choose by shoe size and riding style: narrower for technical street tricks, wider for stability, ramps and bowls.
Does skateboard deck length matter?
Less than width. Deck length usually increases with width, and wheelbase (distance between the trucks) affects stability and turning. Width is the main sizing choice.
What size trucks fit my deck?
Choose trucks whose axle width is close to your deck width, within about a quarter inch. Each brand lists which deck widths its truck sizes fit.
What size wheels should I get?
About 50 to 54mm for street skating, 53 to 56mm for parks and all-round skating, 56 to 60mm for bowls and 56mm and up with soft urethane for cruising.
What size skateboard for a 10 year old?
Many 9 to 12-year-olds ride decks about 7.5 to 8.0 inches wide. Smaller children may suit mini or micro decks around 7.0 to 7.5 inches.
